There are 3 simple exercises you can do in your office, available for you to use to make your day a more comfortable and alert one. Scientists have discovered that the benefits of consistent exercise are cumulative over the life of an individual. Try out these 3 simple suggestions for a more relaxed and productive office day!
Before you get started doing any specific exercises, commit to yourself to follow these basic healthy habits; they will set the stage for a productive, alert and relaxed day. First, be certain to move around your office space as much as you can; do not remain in one position at your desk for extended periods. This movement will help your body to remain limber. Second, drink plenty of fluids throughout your day, to remain hydrated. Water is the best fluid choice; our bodies are mostly made up of water; water also performs a purifying function within our bodies as we move through the day. Third, take care to breathe deeply as you move through your day.
These following three office exercises can be done in the office setting without drawing attention to the fact that you are exercising or requiring you to leave your desk. Other exercises, while not performed at the desk, may easily be performed in the privacy of your office or cubicle.
There are many different types of work place exercises to explore. I am going to introduce exercises which may also easily and comfortably be performed at or near your desk while you are on hold on the phone or sitting in limbo waiting for your computer program to finish running. In addition, these exercises will not negatively impact your office productivity or your professional appearance.
The first simple exercise is a stretching exercise. Proper stretches should be relaxing, stretching the muscle or tendon only to the point of tension, not pain! Do not attempt to stretch an area which is already weak or injured in an attempt to make it better! Information from The Stretching Institute advocates the following simple stretching exercise, sit on a chair, cross your arms over and hang on to the chair between your legs. Let your head fall forward and then lean backwards, simple and effective.
The second exercise to be performed in your office involves aerobic exercise, the all-important type of movement that helps the ability of your heart to move from a resting position to a highly active state; this ability is thought to be keyed to longevity and overall health. This activity is not desk-friendly; the participant must get up and really move! One such suggested motion is to simply jog in place at your desk for 60 seconds or make a quick trip up some nearby stairs during a break, always being careful not to hurt yourself or exceed any medical precautions you may have received from your personal Health Care Provider concerning exercise.
The third easy exercise has been recommended that can be done at the comfort of your desk involve shoulder rolls. An individual should roll loose shoulders slowly at the same time. Repeat several rotations throughout the day.
There you have it. 3 simple exercises that you can do in your office! These are exercises which can also serve as a starting point to help you get involved in a regular exercise program and can help you improve your overall health and well being.
